Carnevale in Rome, 2012

Carnevale in Rome

Rome may not be on everyone’s mind when they think of the Carnevale (which famously takes place in Venice), but if you happen to be in Rome during the Carnevale festivities, you’re in for a spectacular treat! Romans take pride in Carnevale and have their own way of celebrating it. The most popular squares where you’ll likely find activities for grownups and children alike are Piazza Navona and Piazza del Popolo.

This video by the travel web series A Road Retraveled, features Marti Gras (or Martedi Grasso) festivities in Piazza del Popolo with costumes, music, street performers, and a nighttime spectacular with equestrian art, light show, coordinated dances, and a grand finale: a 15 minute long fireworks display on Pincio Hill just behind the square.

You can find out more about Carnevale in Rome on their official website: http://en.carnevale.roma.it/
